Updates from the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace and Women Center
|
* The Women in Community project has started its seventh year with new groups of social workers, community workers and women active and volunteering in their communities, from many different communities from the area of Givat Haviva as well as the north and the south of the country. Some of them will join existing projects and others will start new projects. Women who began the two-year program last year have begun mapping community needs and building projects.
* Last year we started a new program for Arab women directors and leaders of women NGO's and other organizations. The goals of the program include mutual support, learning teamwork, women's management, outreach to the community, dealing with difficulties and dilemmas, initiating new projects, and networking between the participants and other organizations. They have now begun their second year.
* The bi-national group of Women in Community in Akko, after participating in the two-year program, are now working on their own community projects. A new bi-national group of women has started the program in Jaffa.
* Creating Women's Business Communities, a bi-national business women's group from the region surrounding Givat Haviva, started in September. The project is intended to assist them in being more professional in their own businesses, and build a networking group in the area.
* Other on-going projects in this sphere are Arab women counselors and Arab women in politics
Children Teaching Children *CTC is working this year in 8 Arab and Jewish schools. We received less funding this year so we are able to work in fewer schools. On the other hand, CTC has "grown up" and started working with leadership groups – students who choose after one year in the project to continue deeper and more intensive activity, most of them in the afternoon (after school hours, volunteering their time).
*Student councils in Arab schools is a three-year-old project. This year we have 12 groups in different schools. The goal is activating student councils towards involvement, leadership, teamwork and creating projects influencing the community of the school and the village.
