GIVAT HAVIVA'S INTERNATIONAL DEPARTMENT

 

Professor Amalia Fried Honick of Goucher College, Baltimore and Yona Buchman, a former student now living in Israel, pay a call on the International Department at Givat Haviva

 

This month (March, 2010) the International Department was delighted to host Professor Amalia Fried Honick of Goucher College, Baltimore.

Goucher is an independent, selective, coeducational institution dedicated to the interdisciplinary traditions of the liberal arts and a broad international perspective on education.

Professor Honick, Assistant Professor and Program Director for Goucher College Department of Political Science & International Relations, was accompanied by Yona Buchman, a former Goucher student of the Professor's who is now serving in the Israel Defense Force after having participated in the Garin Tzabar program and 'adopted' by Kibbutz Bet HaEmek in the Galilee.

Professor Honick is visiting Israel in order to plan a future program for Goucher students coming to study in the Middle East.  The Professor met with Hilit Ben Zvi, director of the International Department, Givat Haviva, in order to discuss seminar content and study trips in the Wadi Ara region offered by the department for overseas students and academics.

Courses taught by Professor Honick at Goucher include America and the Vietnam War; Security Issues in Global Politics; The International Politics of the Middle East; and The Pacific Rim.

Professor Honick showed great interest in the five-month Intensive Arabic Course taught under the auspices of the Givat Haviva International Department and MASA as well as other activities offered at Givat Haviva.

"We look forward to working closely with Professor Honick to build together a challenging program for Goucher College students and their accompanying academic staff when in Israel," commented Ms. Ben Zvi following the visit.
